# What is a meter reading?

We use the meter reading to determine your electricity consumption.

For this, we calculate the **difference** between the **last** and **current meter reading**.

For example:

- On **January 1**, your electricity meter shows **1234 kWh**
- On **February 1** your electricity meter shows **1345 kWh**
- That means your electricity consumption for the month of January is **111 kWh**  
(1345 kWh - 1234 kWh)

All you have to do is locate your meter and read the numbers, which are in kilowatt hours (kWh).
